Dear Friends of the Non-Surgical Symposium (NSS) and the Anatomy Dissection and Cosmetic Procedures Workshop (Workshop),

As the NSS approaches its 10th Anniversary, it was timely that we reviewed the event and its place in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

In light of this, we are very excited to present to you the new look and feel to be incorporated into the 2020 event.

The new NSS logo symbolises continuous and collegial multidisciplinary collaboration through innovation and education to enhance patient safety.

Although there are some visible changes, the core ethos of the event namely education, innovation and patient safety remain unchanged and stronger than ever before.

The NSS is and has always been, an event that is open to all medical practitioners, nurses and practice staff working in the aesthetic medicine industry.

Where to in 2020?

The industry leading NSS, is a not-for-profit meeting, is hosted by the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) in collaboration with the Australasian Society of Cosmetic Dermatologists (ASCD), and is endorsed by the New Zealand Society of Cosmetic Medicine (NZSCM).

In 2020, former President, Dr Scott Ingram and current President of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), Dr Naveen Somia will be the co-Scientific Convenors of the NSS.

Dr Somia and Dr Ingram are no strangers to putting on large-scale educational events with both intimately involved with the NSS and other ASAPS Educational Events such as the ASAPS Annual Conference.

Dr Tim Papadopoulos will continue as the Scientific Convenor for the Workshop. The ASAPS Board thanks Dr Papadopoulos for his work on the NSS in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Dr Papadopoulos worked tirelessly to bring a dynamic line-up of speakers from across the globe, with the 2019 event boasting 16 keynotes.

If you haven’t got the dates in your diary for 2020 as yet, here they are:

  • Anatomy Dissection and Cosmetic Procedures Workshop 11 June in Brisbane
  • Non-Surgical Symposium 12-14 June on the Gold Coast

Collegiate, collaborative partnerships enhance engagement
The strength of the NSS is the collegiate and collaborative partnerships between the ASAPS, ASCD, NZSCM and their respective memberships.
The contributing societies collaborate, share information and continuously push the meeting to evolve each year, ensuring that the NSS remains at the forefront of the aesthetics sector. It’s this multidisciplinary and inclusive strategy that will see the NSS stay as the premier provider of aesthetic education for many years to come.
NSS 2020 offers the perfect opportunity to continue to educate, innovate and enhance patient outcomes, all in the interests of patient safety.

Enthralling topics to be discussed

At the NSS, our goal is to provide a program that caters for all who work in the aesthetic arena. With this in mind, it’s essential that we put forward topics that are new and interesting, and that attract delegates to come back every year to learn what’s new in non-surgical cosmetic treatments.
At the 2020 NSS, topics that have been confirmed so far include:
  • Ultrasound assisted safe filler injection.
  • Filler injection technique with virtual reality based filler training system.
  • Ideal and safe thread lifting techniques.
  • Facial anatomy for injectables and threads.
  • Cell therapy, Secretome, Exosome – new paradigm for regenerative medicine.

Nurses will be an integral part of
the NSS in 2020
The inaugural Nurses Forum that was held at the 2019 event will return again next year. This Forum provided a valuable opportunity for nurses to provide feedback to ASAPS and it cultivated relationships and generated some great ideas for how nurses can work together to increase their visibility politically and publicly in relation to delivering safe injectable cosmetic treatments.
In 2020 you will see a more significant focus on the experiences and expertise of nurses, who, as we are all well aware, are performing the lion’s share of non-surgical cosmetic treatments. We look forward to engaging more directly with nurses and showcasing them in the light they deserve.

To streamline the registration process for nurses, we have abolished the need for a doctor to verify your attendance. Instead, you will simply need to enter your valid AHPRA registration number. There will be a separate registration category for nurse practitioners.

From Then Until Now
The NSS has more than doubled the number of delegates, sponsors and trade since its inception. It truly is the premier aesthetic education event for Plastic Surgeons, Cosmetic Physicians, Doctors, Dermatologists and Nurses. It has sold out every year since 2015. More than 4,000 health care professional delegates have passed through the gates, enriching their skills and knowledge from listening and learning from world-class speakers. The ability to draw the calibre of speakers of the NSS is what sets the event apart.
The trade exhibition hall is unrivalled in its size. More than 90 industry partners showcased their wares in 2019.
It’s also an award-winning event. Under the direction of immediate past President of ASAPS, Associate Professor Mark Magnusson, who convened from 2013-2016, the NSS was named the Best Conference at the Asia Pacific MICE Awards in 2016, and in 2017 was the Winner of the State Category – Queensland in the Australian Event Awards for Best Conference.
While growing the event bigger is not on the cards, we certainly want to remain at the forefront of aesthetic education. We do this by continuing to listen to delegate feedback and shaping the NSS to meet the needs of its diverse audience. We are always overwhelmed with the positive feedback we get about the NSS and the Workshop in that they provide an immersive learning environment for delegates like no other.
If you haven’t had the chance to fill in your feedback form as yet, now is the time to do so!
We look forward to sharing more of our plans for 2020 with you in the coming months.
Yours truly,
The Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons Board
